La Maison Arabe is one of Marrakech’s finest riad-hotel, restaurant and spa. Its history began in the 1930’s when two French women moved to Marrakech and established it as a restaurant in 1946. La Maison Arabe became the ultimate place to dine and welcomed renowned guests such as Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaulle and the Queen of Denmark. In 1994, it was bought by a noble Italian man who reopened it in 1997 as a hotel as well as a restaurant. Nowadays, La Maison Arabe is also a cooking school which conducts workshops for cooking professionals and amateurs led by a traditional Moroccan cook, a dada or one of the chefs from the restaurants. These cooking workshops, which are held at the hotel, last for half a day usually and allow the pupils to dine all together and enjoy the delicious meal they made. Each class has a maximum of 10 people to ensure comfort for everyone as well as tailored help.

Souk Cuisine was established by Gemma Van de Burgt, a dutch expat who went to hotel school and then worked for renowned businesses in Holland. Gemma shares her passion for Moroccan cuisine and reveals her secrets for traditional meals such as couscous, tagines and briouates by offering half-days workshops. The day begins at 10 am, Gemma takes her students to the souks in the Medina to pick out fresh and local ingredients and give you tips on how to choose products wisely. The actual cooking takes place in the courtyard of a riad, in an open, so everyone can make the most of the Moroccan weather. After the markets, everyone is served mint tea, as is the Moroccan tradition. 4 hours of cooking then take place in groups of 2-14 followed by a shared meal of everything which has been cooked accompanied with a glass of Moroccan wine, a true delight!
