Itinerary for a 3 day escapade in Marrakech

Day one

Moroccan hammam: A must when visiting Morocco is enjoying a relaxing moment in a hammam. The latter is a steam room which moroccans use weekly as a way of cleansing oneself. The concept of a hammam is to have a hot steam bath followed by a calming massage, to re-energise one’s body. Though there are various divine spas where it is possible to experience a hammam, we recommend renting a villa with a hammam in Marrakech, to optimise your stay.

Jemaa El-Fna: This is Marrakech’s main square, the one you are probably picturing in your head when thinking of Marrakech. When walking around, don’t be surprised by the variety of people that you will see, from snake charmers, to magicians, musicians… all sorts of entertainment can be found there. As dusk begins to settle, this magnificent square turns into a massive food hall with large tables lit by gas lanterns, not a sight to be missed!

The souk: Depending on how much time you have spent at Jemaa El-Fna, you may be able to pay a visit to the souk, which close at around 8 or 9 pm. These impressive markets are a significant part of Morocco’s culture. There can be found berber rugs, antiques, spices ( which are widely recommended to buy as they have a particular taste) and not to forget, babouche shoes. The rule in the souk is to haggle for anything you would like to purchase, stand your ground!

Day two

Appreciate your surroundings: With so many things to do in Marrakech, it is easy to forget to spend some time appreciating the little things around you. For example, for those staying in a Riad in Marrakech, enjoy the wonderful architecture of the building, and immerse yourself in the moroccan culture by having breakfast on the roof while admiring the splendid views. Those staying in a villa with a private swimming pool, take a moment to relax while bathing, sipping on a fresh mint tea.

Ben Youssef Madrasa:  This medieval Koranic school in Marrakech, which is no longer an islamic college nowadays but an islamic historical site is one of Marrakech’s top sightseeing points. With its colourful arches and tiles, all the more impressive from each other. Ben Youssef Madrasa is very much enjoyed by art amateurs not only due to its spectacular architecture but also because it can be photographed, whereas mosques are closed to tourists.

Saadian Tombs: These tombs representing the Saadian dynasty which ruled from 1554 to 1669 are another must-see of Marrakech. We recommend booking a guide for your visit, to understand more of their background and history.

Day three

Excursion in the Agafay desert: On your last day, venture into the Agafay desert, also referred to as the ‘Marrakchi desert’ for an excursion you won’t forget. The sporting activities range widely there, from an adrenaline rush experience of a quad ride to a more physical one by taking a camel ride, there is an option for everyone. Enjoy a post- activity treat by enjoying a well-prepared picnic on the rocky dunes, how delightful! 

Jardin Majorelle: This beautiful landscaped garden built on a 9000 metre squared plot of land is one of Morocco’s most famous attractions. Its creation, orchestrated by french painter Jacques Majorelle, began in the 1920’s, though it took 40 years to finish it. Jardin Majorelle is also associated with Yves Saint Laurent nowadays, who bought the garden in 1980 to save it from destruction.

Taste the Moroccan gastronomy: On your last evening, treat yourself to an exquisite moroccan restaurant ‘La Grande Table Marocaine’ at the Royal Mansour, held by a 3-star Michelin Chef, Yannick Alléno, for an explosion of savours.
